Jimmy Wedel

Meet Jimmy Wedel. He was born in Muleshoe, Texas where he lives and farms the land. He received his degree from Texas Tech University. Jimmy is the president of the board of directors of Texas Organic Cotton Marketing Cooperative (TOCMC). He served as secretary for 10 years and is now serving as President. He also serves as the finance chairman for the Texas Corn Producers Board and serves on the board of directors for the Corn Producers Association of Texas. He participates on the Research and Business Development Action Team for NCGA. He is a member of the TALL Alumni Association and advises on the Parmer-Bailey TPMA Steering Committee.

In 1982, Jimmy married Susan and together they have a son and a daughter. He and his family attend the First United Methodist Church of Muleshoe where Jimmy is a finance chairman, youth leader and Sunday school teacher.

When Jimmy was asked what is unique or interesting about him, he responded by saying, “I have been told that I look like John Denver (when he was alive) and others have said I look like George Bush (the younger one).” Jimmy has a very determined nature. He strives for perfection and sometimes achieves it.

He is a third generation farmer who works 4,000 acres of land with 3,000 of these acres growing organic cotton. His other crops consist of alfalfa, corn (blue, yellow and white), green beans, peanuts, peas, soybean and wheat. He grows organic cotton for (1) the increased financial gain and (2) the natural methods that can be used to better improve the environment.

 The reward Jimmy receives for producing organically is the satisfaction he gains by doing something that most people think cannot be done. That is – “environmental stewardship.”

He makes this world a better place because he appropriates fairness, honesty and integrity in all that he does.
